The Truth About Flu Vaccinations: Why You Should Get One Every Year

Flu vaccinations are one of the most controversial topics in the medical world today. Some people swear by them, while others swear them off. So, what’s the truth? Are flu vaccinations really necessary?

The answer is yes – flu vaccinations are absolutely necessary, and here are 5 reasons why:

  • It’s Safer than the Flu:

The flu is one of the most common infectious diseases in the world, and it kills thousands of people every year. In fact, according to the CDC, on average there are over 200,000 cases of influenza-associated hospitalisations each year in children less than 18 years old. The flu can be dangerous for anyone but especially for young children, pregnant women and seniors. The best way to protect yourself from this virus is through vaccination.

  • It Can Help Protect Others:

If you get the flu vaccine, you won’t get sick from it (or at least not as often). But if you don’t get the shot and do get sick, you could end up spreading your illness to others who don’t have high immunity to it. By getting vaccinated, you’re helping protect those around you from becoming ill as well.

  • It’s Effective and It Works:

The flu vaccination isn’t just effective – it’s one of the most effective vaccines available. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that if you get a flu shot annually, it can reduce your risk of getting sick by 40%. That means you have a 60% chance of avoiding the flu if you get vaccinated every year.

  • It’s Low Risk

It is estimated that only 1 in every 1 million people will experience a severe side effect from the vaccine itself (such as an allergic reaction). However, if you do experience any pain or swelling at the injection site within 48 hours of receiving your shot, don’t worry – it’s perfectly normal!

  • It’s Easily Accessible:

Flu vaccines are incredibly accessible and easy to get. They’re available at most local pharmacies and health clinics, as well as many local doctors’ offices. If you don’t have access to a doctor or pharmacist who can administer your shot, you can also get it through your local public health officials. The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months of age or older should be vaccinated each year with an influenza vaccine before flu activity begins in their community.

Just because you haven’t had a serious reaction in the past, that doesn’t mean it can’t happen. So protect yourself and your family by getting flu vaccinations today!
